Expanding & ContractingDuring the main sequence there is no expanding or contracting. Expanding and contracting happens more towards of the death of the star. At the end of the star's life energy over powers gravity on the outer part of the star. This causes the star to expand. In the core Gravity over takes energy so the core is very dense. So when the star runs out of hydrogen, it stops having nuclear fusion. When the star stops going through nuclear fusion the star starts dying and expanding. To learn more about this go to the Death page.
