When a star dies it goes though what is called stellar evolution. There are many steps in stellar evolution. Its starts at a protostar. Then it moves into the main sequence, when Rigel is in the main sequence it is a blue super giant. As it leaves the main sequence it starts to die, the first step in death for Rigel is super nova is when the star reaches the most amount of mass it can then it will collapse This is called the Chandrasekhar limit. The next step is a black hole. A black hole happens, when the center of the star stars to collapse, it turns into a region in space were nothing, not even light can escape, hence the name black hole. These death phases are probable because the h-r diagram shows that Rigel is a blue super giant, they are the death phases for a blue super giant.
Compering death between stars with opposite masses, Rigel and Sun.
If the white dwarf meets its maximum mass, witch is about 1.4 times the mass of the sun, then it will clasp. This is called the Chandrasekhar limit. When it claspeses its called Type Ia supernova.
